Reports to: Passenger Amenities Supervisor
Pay Rate: $15.83/hr
Classification: Hourly, non-exempt

Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit, Inc. (TCAT) in Ithaca, NY is seeking a Full-Time Custodian to perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, sanitary, orderly and safe environment, and perform amenities work as required. Custodian follows a predetermined schedule for maintaining multiple facilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Facility cleaning and amenities maintenance including but not limited to: stocking restrooms, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, empty trash cans, disinfecting, shampooing carpets, etc.
  • Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors
  • Follow all safety instructions for equipment usage and cleaning chemicals and report safety hazards to supervisor immediately
  • Maintain inventory and submit written requests for supplies
  • Test and evaluate new supplies and equipment
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment, hand tools and cleaning equipment
  • Arrange furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classes, and special events
  • Assist the Passenger Amenities Supervisor in cleaning and maintaining TCAT bus shelters throughout the service area
  • Test, evaluate and maintain inventory by submitting written requests for supplies to the Passenger Amenities Supervisor following proper purchasing protocol
  • Be familiar with SDS data sheets and required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in custodial services
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for the purposes of cleaning
  • Ability to perform general maintenance and custodial duties in and around buildings
  • Knowledge of custodial products and application procedures to ensure employee safety
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have the ability to travel between facilities
