Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit, Inc. (TCAT) in Ithaca, NY is seeking an IT Assistant to ensure continuity of computer system services for TCAT staff by providing technical expertise, assistance and project coordination. The IT Assistant will install computer software products, modify and replace hardware and resolve technical problems while supporting various departments in data entry, training and website maintenance.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assure continuity of the Windows Server system for all system users by performing basic troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Maintain Active Directory by adding and removing users, assigning groups and assigning drives
  • Provide technical assistance and training to employees as needed
  • Provide end user support by installing and updating software and hardware products
  • Work closely with service vendors to ensure continuity of service
  • Maintain Microsoft Exchange email management system by managing users, setting up new user accounts, and monitoring email filter system
  • Monitor and maintain internal phone system by managing users, assigning extensions and printing off monthly phone records
  • Monitor and maintain bus camera feeds, servers, recorded radio traffic
  • Setup, upgrade, and serve as first point of contact in resolving issues related to the computer-aided dispatch system
  • Regularly prepare and complete backups for individual PC’s
  • Resolve issues related to Avail computer-aided dispatch and Maximo asset management software
  • Work with Maintenance, Accounting, and other departments to ensure the integrity of Maximo data and that users have the tools and reports they need to fully utilize system
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant software certifications
  • Familiarity with web development languages/technologies including: HTML/CSS, Java, JavaScript, PHP, and WordPress
  • Familiarity with programming languages including: Python, C++, Visual Basic, XML, SMIL

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of software maintenance principles and practices
  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including experience with VBA programming
  • Intermediate competency with SQL
  • Experience with networking management and security, hardware monitoring, and system utility programs
  • Working knowledge of various Windows operating systems including MS Windows Server 2008/2012/2016
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Experience training and providing technical assistance
  • Experience testing, and installing software applications
  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting technical data
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must work to achieve favorable outcomes for the organization beyond minimum work expectations

 

Working Conditions:

  • Typically works in office environment
  • Occasional work is done in the field where exposure to bad weather conditions will occur
  • Ability to travel in the field to support special events and attend meetings
  • May be on-call at off hours for emergencies
